Valentines, Humans, and Other Foolishness

Updated: 5 days ago

Ah yes. February.

The month where humans suddenly decide everything must be expressed loudly.

Flowers. Cards. Cuddles. Guilt. Apologies. Promises.

And inevitably — dogs caught in the middle.

I observe this from the comfort of the sofa, nestled amongst the cushions. I know how to be calm; I know how to be cosy.

Mooby the cat relaxes among a pile of cushions, keeping a watchful eye in the dimly lit, cozy room.

Dogs don’t need dramatic displays. They need the same thing every day.

The same tone.

The same rules.

The same calm.

When humans get emotional, dogs get busy. They fill the gap.

They guard. They hover. They worry.

Then everyone wonders why things feel tense.

I have lived seventeen years. I have seen enough.

Calm is not boring.

Calm is efficient.

If humans loved each other — and their dogs — with fewer speeches and more consistency, the world would be quieter.

And frankly, that would suit me very well.
