Cluck-cluck, happy New Year! It’s us again — The Girls That Gossip. And oh, the things we’ve overheard already this year.
“New routines! Fresh starts! Big promises!” the humans say. Hens like us don’t fall for that. Dawn still means dawn, grain still means grain, and calm order still makes the coop run smoothly.

“Not for long,” muttered Shadow. “Humans never last. They’ll be back to forgetting by February.” “Oh hush,” said Pearl, fluffing her feathers. “Some of them try.” “Tried last year too,” sighed Misty.“ And the year before,” added Cloud. “Remember the diet? Lasted two days.”
We’re not above gossiping about each other either. Pearl hogs the best perch. Misty sulks when it rains. Shadow gets bossy about pecking order. And Cloud? Always clucking about the past. But here’s the thing: we settle quickly because we all know the routine. Same feed, same roost, same calm order every single day.
Dogs need the same. Not dramatic resolutions, not sudden change. Just calm, kind, consistent leadership. Small steps, steady routines, same rules every time. That’s what makes them trust.
And here’s the real secret: small changes, done well and done often, lead to the big changes that last. It’s not about rushing; it’s about pace and quality. Calm. Clear. Consistent. Confident. That’s how you walk into change and succeed.
So while humans flap about with “New Year, new me,” we’ll keep doing what works: sunrise, scratch, peck, repeat. And maybe, just maybe, the humans will learn to do the same.
