Eggs, Smells, and Chewing Everything!

Hi hi hi! It’s me, Elsie!

And something VERY strange has happened.

The house smells… different.

The floor smells interesting.

And things are appearing where they never normally do.

Egg smells. Sweet smells. Foil smells.

So many smells.

So I stood by the back door and watched the floor by the kitchen bin.

Just in case.

Charlie came over too. He didn’t rush. He didn’t panic. He just looked at me, then looked where I was looking, like he was checking whether something important was happening.

Elsie checks on the kitchen floor near the back door, optimistic during Easter, while Charlie appears skeptical of the mat decorated with paw prints.

I wasn’t being naughty.

I wasn’t planning anything.

I was making sure nothing got missed.

That’s what happens when food changes. When things drop on the floor that don’t normally exist, my brain switches on. I start scanning. Watching. Deciding whether I need to step in.

But then Russ quietly picked it up. No fuss. No excitement. Just removed it and carried on as if nothing important had happened at all.

And just like that, the job disappeared.

Charlie lost interest first. Typical.

I followed.

When food stays out of reach and out of sight, I don’t have to watch the floor. I don’t have to hover. I don’t have to decide what everything means.

I can lie down.

I can sigh.

I can nap.

Seasonal changes are confusing when you’re a dog. Things appear and disappear without explanation. But when the rules stay the same, even when everything else changes, it’s much easier to relax.

No shiny things to manage.

No chewing required.

Much better.

Love, wiggles, and wags,

Elsie
