Pearl: Something’s happening.
Cloud: Definitely.
Misty: The light’s different.
Shadow: The humans are different.
We noticed it before anyone else did.
The door is opening more often. There are tools out. Things are being moved. The dogs are watching.
Humans call it May Day. We call it disturbance.
They talk about holidays. Trips. Barbecues. “Making the most of the weather.”
We see longer evenings and shifting energy.
And the dogs? They feel it.
Elsie’s pacing a little more. Charlie’s observing. They’re not anxious — just aware.
When humans change pace, dogs adjust. They don’t know about calendars. They don’t know summer is coming. They only know that something in the rhythm has altered.
We’ve lived long enough in this garden to know what happens next.
More visitors. More food outside. More movement beyond the fence.
This is where leadership matters.
When the humans move with intention, everything settles quickly. When they get busy and distracted, the dogs start monitoring.
And monitoring leads to responsibility.
We prefer it when responsibility stays where it belongs.
Cloud: With the tall ones.
Misty: Not the furry ones.
Shadow: Especially not the honking one.
Pearl: Quite.
May isn’t chaos. It’s transition.
Handled calmly, it’s lovely.
Handled loosely, it becomes work.
We will be watching.
Sharp eyes. Sharper beaks.
